Not to be impolite, but I’m rescinding my invitation to VMACwitness. I know. How rude.
But to make it up to you, I’m going to move what limited content existed on that site over here. Turns out, I’m not AT ALL in a place to keep up with two blogs. However, I do still want to share my goal progress with you, along with the usual yummy eat-related posts. Keep an eye out for more photography, and at least weekly goal updates.
If you’ve missed out on this crazy goal experiment that gave birth to VMACwitness, here’s the gist:
On January 7, 2010, I was chatting online with my friend Claire, who is currently living in my hometown of Austin, TX. The conversation went approximately like this:
Claire: There’s a group of us girls that are all outlining a goal or goals we’d like to accomplish in six months. We’re going to check in with each other and keep each other accountable and at the end of six months, have a big party to celebrate our goal. You could join in if you want and we could check in with each other over email.
Me: Hmm. I have like 5 different goals. I’d have to think about which one I’d want to do.
Claire: Okay. You don’t have to come to the party if you can’t, I know it’s a long way to travel.
Me: Actually, I’ll be in Texas in June.
Claire: Ooh! Then we’ll totally plan the party around you.
Me: Fine, my six month goal is to be special enough to have someone plan a party around me.
Claire: That’s cheating.
Me: Okay, let me noodle over it a little more.
Claire: Okay, that sounds good. I just farted.
As I showered after our conversation, I mulled over my goals, some of which I’d briefly talked about over here. They included:
1. Taking more pictures
2. Writing more
3. Saving money
4. Learning more French
5. Exercising more
6. Staying in better touch with my friends from home.
“Well,” I thought, as I lathered up, “I can do a lot of these things by just starting another blog that my friends can chime in on with their own goal adventures.”
As we’ve now found out, starting another blog and coming up with double the content doesn’t work so well for a gal with a full-time job, a pseudo-hubs, and an apartment that she just moved into. In any case, goal related posts on VMAC + Cheese will do they following:
They will showcase the pictures I should be taking. They’ll house the writing I should be doing. I can talk about the days when I really don’t want to walk the 2.6 miles to work, and the 2.6 miles back, but I do anyway because it means I’m exercising more and saving money by not using public transit. And if my friends play along, we’ll all stay in better touch.
My definition of “goal success” will be fluid. The Gestalt approach: I was able to manage a little bit of each of these (more likely). Rockstar approach: I do a total 180 in one of these areas (less likely).
So that’s it.
As always, thanks for stopping in!
