Behind the Scenes with Maggie Rose Interiors

Today I’m pleased to welcome Maggie Morgan! I first “met” Maggie last year, when she was a part of Jess Constable’s ‘Dream Reporter’ series. It’s been amazing to watch her grow her interior design business, Maggie Rose Interiors, and truly flourish since that time. She’s always offering great insight and advice on Twitter, and after reading her Behind the Scenes, I can definitely say we have a lot more in common than I realized. Get her BTS right here:

Macchu Pichu, New York City, the South (Savannah and Atlanta specifically), Egypt, and the French countryside.

The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls
Zelda: A Biography by Nancy Milford and Johanna Ward

An inspiring workspace, a home we’re working on, and married with our first wee one.

1) A brand-new BIG business idea that I can’t divulge yet, but I’ve loved using Basecamp to capture notes and ideas with my friend and collaborator while working on it as much as possible after juggling my current business activities.
2) Losing my college weight (yes, it’s been 5 years…) – exercising does not come naturally to me so I’m trying to find some activities that I enjoy because I’m never giving up food or eating “diet” crap. Maybe tennis or yoga or dancing…?

Owning a home! It will be several years before we’re in a position to buy something, but I have lots of ideas filed away. Of course, my taste changes weekly so I’m sure there will be lots of new ideas when the time comes! I’d love a fixer-upper but Ryan (my bf) isn’t too sure we’re ready for the work involved.

It’s named after me – Rose is my middle name. I was named after my grandmother.

I get a lot of inspiration from other young women who are also creative business owners – I know we all have our struggles but they set a wonderful example of some of the things I’d like to accomplish. There are many, but Cassandra LaValle, Jamie Meares, and Jamie Beck come to mind.

Definitely quitting my job last May and taking my decorating business to full-time. It has been quite the roller coaster ride from there and I can’t say that it’s all be a piece of cake, but I don’t regret the decision at all. I’m a worrier and a planner, so taking that kind of leap was a big deal for me!

My bed :) I’m a homebody.

I started the Maggie Rose blog in 2008 (I had another little blog for a few months before that but got bored quickly). Maggie Rose was originally named Magchunk (a silly nickname) but when it started getting bigger I changed the name! Now blogging is part of my business, but I don’t think I’d keep doing it if it wasn’t still inspiring to me and a way to have a creative outlet besides my decorating work. It’s also been a wonderful way to meet other creative people – some of my best friends are other bloggers and entrepreneurs and I wouldn’t give that up for the world!

What a wonderful article – Maggie is so talented! I love using basecamp for multi-person projects because it keeps us so on task with everything.

Thank you for introducing us to Maggie! I love learning about how other interior designers run their businesses. I also can completely relate to having weigh loss as a current goal, so un-glamorous, yet so true!

Maggie: definitely read The Glass Castle first – it is TOO good and so intriguing, especially because it’s a true story!
