This week I…

+ Had a week filled with printing. Check it. I:
+ Ordered new business cards from Moo. Why didn’t anyone tell me they had this luxe line of paper sooner?? Obsessed.
+ Had our Save the Dates printed (well, got the ball rolling at least. There was a minor snafu with how they cropped it, but those babies will be ready to go out next week, I hope!)
+ Printed a fun little bachelorette invitation for a client. It’s lookin’ fly. I kinda wanna go to this party, honestly.
+ Had two lunches with two good friends (hi Rach and Mere!). It’s always so nice to catch up with people and get out of my head for a while. I find that while I don’t mind being by myself at home all day, it’s definitely made me more of a head case at times.
+ Got our engagement photos back! I told Joe the professionally done hair and makeup worked wonders, because I thought they were the best photographs I’d ever taken (and I HATE being in photographs). He goes, “Naw, I like the way you look everyday more.” I thought he was busting my balls, but he was serious. It sounds dumb, but it was really sweet. It’s funny looking at these photos and picking out the ones that are most us. Ironically, they’re the ones we’re least likely to put on our wedding website. Mostly because they’re all the ones where we’re eating. Stuffing our faces and laughing = most true to real life.

LINK OF THE WEEK: This post from Sarah. Because as much as I remind myself of everything she wrote in that second paragraph, it never seems to sink in. However, her words stayed with me all yesterday and I found myself taking a step outside of my crazed mind and thinking about what she said and having my rational, objective self telling my insane self that I’m doing just fine. It was nice. More on this on Monday!

Happy weekend, everyone!

Splurge/Save: Scalloped Skirts

I didn’t mean for the title of this post to be so alliterative, but sometimes these things just work out. Moving on.

I have a thing for scalloping (and yeah, okay, scallops too). But let’s focus! Scallop detailing on skirts is perfectly lovely, in my opinion, whether we’re talking a lace detail or the edge of the hem. It’s a ladylike look that’s quite timeless, and can be toned down with simple flats and a basic tee, or gussied up with heels and a pretty blouse.

So the real question is…when it comes to scalloped mini skirts, would you splurge, or would you save?

Where to get ‘em: Asos Ponti Mini Skirt, $34.97 | Giulietta Scalloped A-line Crepe Skirt, $615 | Urban Outfitters Staring at Stars Crochet Scalloped Mini Skirt, $54 | Diane Von Furstenberg Akio Lace Mini Skirt< $265

Style to Inspire: Amy Kuschel

Oh, am I excited for today’s Style to Inspire. So excited in fact, that instead of waiting to share this with you on the regular Style to Inspire day of Monday, I couldn’t help but publish this right away! You guys are in for a treat. Let me introduce you to the fabulous Amy Kuschel, bridal designer extraordinaire — and, as it so happens, the designer of my own wedding gown. This week, Amy was kind enough to welcome me into her design studio, which (conveniently enough!) is located directly upstairs from the salon where brides stop in to browse her gorgeous selections of gowns. It is so special to me that my own dress will be made right here in SF, and I consider it an honor to be able to feature Amy here today. Read on to learn about how she got started in the business, what inspires her, where she thinks the wedding industry will be in five years, and her favorite restaurant in SF (which happens to to be one of my faves too)! Behind the Scenes with In the City with Crystalin

The first time I ever met Crystalin, I think we were both a little nervous. It was one of the first one on one blogger meetups we’d ever done in SF…so, essentially a blind date. And you know how those can go. But I really had nothing to worry about. Cut to two hours later, when we’re having a heart to heart about our families, and I knew she was a keeper! Since then, Crystalin has become my go-to gal when I want to grab a margarita after work and talk about blogging, fashion, life, whatever. She’s so stylish, and with a fantastic business sense. Be sure to check out her blog, right after you read her BTS below. I know you’ll love learning more about her!  (more…)

Obsessed: Weleda Skin Food

I’ve always thought I was pretty in tune with my skin, but a few weeks ago, I had these red patches on my cheeks that I just couldn’t kick. I thought maybe I was dehydrated? Nope, drinking almost half a gallon of water a day for a few days did nothing. Lacking certain vitamins? Not it either — I took a multi as well as a skincare vitamin, but to no avail. Then, I read Molly’s post describing similar redness that was almost rash like, and it hit me: my poor cheeks were just totally dry.

I had been using the Origins High-Potency Night-A-Mins I mentioned here, and while I liked it and it made other areas of my face look good, it wasn’t helping with the dry patches on my cheeks. So, on a whim, I picked up Weleda’s Skin Food, which I’ve heard raves about (even Victoria Beckham swears by it). The Skin Food is super thick, so much so that when  I first squeezed a little out, I was worried it was much too heavy for the face. Imagine my shock when after spreading it around, a minute later, it had all but soaked in. I’ve NEVER seen such a thick cream absorb so quickly. Your skin really does eat it up! Combined with the Origins, the redness in my cheeks has all but disappeared.

And on super dry nights, I’ve been going Skin Food, then Mychelle Deep Repair Cream, then the Origins. I sound like the skincare equivalent of a crazy bag lady, but hey, it’s working.
