Pocketed.

Shop It: Markus Lupfer Tweed Pocket Dress, Chinti and Parker Striped Organic Sweater, Chinti and Parker Striped Organic Skirt, Rachel Zoe Madison Shift Dress

I’m so smitten with the look of patch pockets on pretty much anything and everything. A sweater, a cami, a dress, a skirt…it makes it so whimsical (and is a great opportunity for a little color contrast, no?).

Finding a perfectly done patch pocket moment is tougher than you think…so I loved these two DIY examples, spotted on I Spy DIY:

If you had a sewing machine, the options would be endless! Think of all the different fabrics you could add to take a simple piece in an entirely new direction.

Speaking of items I wish I was wearing…head on over to A Piece of Toast where today I’m participating in their column of the same name! I have loved this feature from its inception and was so excited to participate in it on behalf of my former Alt roomie.

UPDATE: Great minds! After I wrote this post out, I was blog reading last night and realized Christine had written about her own patch pocket DIY. Go check it out!

Shoe Lust

I mean, have you ever? Through the course of looking for a pair of shoes to go with my wedding dress that don’t remind me of Easter shoes circa 1995 and that I will wear more than once, I stumbled across these two beauties. Cue ensuing shoe lust!

The kitten heels are so unique – I don’t think I’ve ever seen shoes quite like them! Leave it to BHLDN to stock something so romantic, pretty, and original. They’re not a perfect match for my dress (though I kind of want them just because they’re freaking adorable), so they’re a maybe for my bridesmaid! And the Manolo pumps…well.  Mary Jane’s made from the darkest navy satin. Trimmed with grosgrain ribbon. If there’s an equation for the perfect shoe, that might just be it. Talk about a shoe that would never go out of style.

There needs to be a mega millions lottery drawing in which I am the winner. I guess that would mean I need to buy a ticket first. Details, I say.

Tied up in knots

…over which one I would choose. Rope print for the home, or for an outfit. Though at these prices, one could totally get both!

PS — I am so glad to know I’m not the only one who has been in the creative dumps. I took a bit of the morning off to relax and not think about work. I think that helped a lot! It really is true…step away from the computer if you want to reenergize.

I’m Loving…

From J.Crew: Minnie pants in vibrant flame | Striped Boatneck popovers (not online anymore but the store had a ton in both colors) | Fanfare cardigan | Villa Dress | Other: Lucky Brand Ester Flats

I realize that I discuss clothing and style a lot on the blog, and yeah, it’s because I totally adore it and am constantly daydreaming about it. However, I will let you in on a little secret. Until this past weekend, I had not been shopping in months. And not just a few months… I mean like late last summer months. The reason, of course, is I had sort of made a conscious decision to go for it blog and business wise, and was saving every last waking penny that I could. Okay, maybe that’s a stretch. But I certainly wasn’t allowing myself to blow money on clothes. My grandmother got me a couple things at Christmas time, but those were the only new items I’d gotten in a very long while!

So when my mom was here last week, we decided to hit up the shops in search of some cute summer wear for her…and of course, I got lured in to the awesomeness that is J.Crew. I’m a spoiled brat, because my mom was kind enough to indulge me a little with most of the goods here — and it helped that The Crew was having a MEGA sale. Seriously…get thee to your local store. A lot of the stuff was discounted way more than it is online. I wonder why they do that?

Anyway, I came home with the above and it made me feel so much better about a few upcoming trips and photo-related situations I’m going to find myself in. Thank goodness for moms, am I right?

Street Style: Get the Look

The weather has been rainy here in SF again. Joe and I have been busy planning our big French adventure (it’s FINALLY coming together) and it’s got me daydreaming about lightweight summer dresses well suited to Provence’s warmer temps and lazy days. The wind and rain here in the city certainly don’t help matters!

I’ve been working on re-organizing my Pinterest boards which has been a fun exercise in categorization and the rediscovery of old pins I’d completely forgotten about. Don’t you love that? Anyway, combine my warm weather wanderlust with “finding” the above look, and I was totally inspired. And of COURSE it’s Hanneli. Figures.

Luckily, this pretty spring/summer look is easily recreated. Check out comparable pieces I found right here: (more…)
